Starting in the summer of 2026, National Grid plans to refurbish nearly 16 miles of overhead transmission lines and poles within the existing right-of-way corridor. This work extends from the Sandy Pond Substation in Ayer, MA, to the Tewksbury Substation in Tewksbury, MA.
Beneficios del proyecto
Improves electric reliability for customers in the region.
Replaces older wooden structures with new light-duty steel structures.
Upgrades are completed within the existing utility right-of-way.

National Grid invites you to meet the Sandy Pond to Tewksbury Reliability Project team at one of our upcoming open houses. The first open house will be held Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Billerica Public Library located at 15 Concord Road. The second open house will take place Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Chelmsford Senior Center located at 75 Groton Road in North Chelmsford.
All community members and interested parties are welcome to attend either event. Open house attendees will have the opportunity to connect with our team and learn about the upcoming project, including an overview, anticipated activities, and the proposed schedule.

Preparación del sitio
El primer paso consiste en despejar los árboles y la maleza. Este trabajo permite a los equipos de construcción construir de forma segura caminos de acceso y retirar los árboles que podrían caer sobre la línea eléctrica.

Substation Upgrades

Restauración
After construction, crews restore the work area and return the ground as close as possible to its original condition, unless otherwise specified in regulatory requirements or by a landowner agreement.
