About the Project
The Ayer Substation Project will improve the existing electric substation. The project will replace old equipment. It will also update the connection between the substation and two nearby transmission line poles that were recently replaced.
The substation was built in the 1940’s, and some parts are still in use today. National Grid plans to invest about $80 million to improve the site. These upgrades will help provide safe and reliable electric service for the region.
The project will also include:
- Expanding the substation toward Bishop Road and Park Street
- Ongoing work on electric distribution lines along Bishop Road and Park Street
