D-156
About the Project
The D-156 Refurbishment Project will improve about 5.5 miles of overhead 115 kilovolt transmission line located within an existing utility right-of-way.
The project runs through Southborough, from National Grid’s substation on Northborough Road to an area south of Nichols Street. The work will replace older equipment, improve electric reliability, and make the system stronger for the future.
As part of the project, crews will replace 37 wooden structures and 5 steel structures with new steel structures designed to last longer. Some structures may be moved slightly or made taller to meet current safety, engineering, and environmental standards.
