About the Project
This project will improve the existing electric transmission power line to make it more reliable and enhance communication. The work includes replacing older wooden line structures with new steel structures. Two fiber-optic cables will also be added. These cables help our systems communicate more effectively and protect the line from lightning strikes. This project will also repair existing access roads and build new ones where needed.
These improvements will help keep workers safe and make future maintenance easier. All work will take place within or near the existing transmission right-of-way. The project runs through the Massachusetts communities of Ludlow, Palmer, Brimfield, Warren, Brookfield, Sturbridge, and Charlton.

- October 2028 - Construction Complete
Phases of Construction
-
Site Preparation
The first step is clearing trees and brush. This work allows construction crews to safely build access roads and remove trees that could fall onto the power line.
-
Environmental Controls
Next, steps are taken to protect the area during construction. These may include placing mats, silt fences, and concrete washout containers for construction materials.
-
Transmission Line Rebuilding
New foundations and structures are installed, along with fiber-optic cables and new wires. Old structures are removed, and the new wires are energized. Crews use heavy equipment, including cranes.
-
Restoration
After construction, crews restore the work area and return the ground as close as possible to its original condition. (Unless otherwise specified in regulatory requirements or by a landowner).
