U2 ACR
About the Project
The U2 Transmission Line is 3.5 miles long and runs through Stoughton, Brockton, and Easton. The line was built in the 1970’s and has not had major upgrades since then. This project will add optical ground wire and improve the line’s condition to provide safe and reliable power to customers. Optical ground wire is a type of fiber-optic cable made of steel and aluminum used on overhead power lines to protect them from lightning and carry high-speed data and communication signals. Replacing the power lines will also increase capacity to meet future energy needs.
